A Wellness Routine for a Positive Start

As I reflect on the first three months of this year, I’ve held up my expectations of being kind to myself. It’s easy to get caught up in the routine and consistency of getting ready for work, working, cleaning, and other obligations society places on adults. Being mindful of how I’m showing up for myself is essential. As I continue to learn and grow, I’ve realized how important it is to surround myself with positivity. Knowing this, I begin my days with a calm start. My intention for this year is for my days to be peaceful. If you want a wellness routine for a positive start to your days, keep reading and find a list to help create a calm environment to achieve a mindful morning. For instance, I’ve found that setting the mood with ambient lighting and enjoying a nutrient-rich breakfast have significantly improved my mornings.

Calm Morning Habits: 

The key to making new habits stick is to start small, a strategy that empowers you to take control of your mornings.   Here are three simple yet effective things you can do to create a calm environment for your mindful mornings. 

Set the mood with ambient lighting.

If you’re anything like me, you’re not a morning person. If I must rise before the sun, my eyes prefer to remain closed. Ambient lighting, with its gentle and soothing glow, is essential to creating a calming atmosphere in the morning. My Tiffany Floor Lamp’s on button is within my foot’s reach on the bed’s side. The stained blue and white lampshade is upturned, so the soft white light shines directly on me. It is a pleasant and relaxing way to wake up if it’s still dark outside.

I always keep a crystal-shaped soft white night light on in the restroom. It helps my eyes adjust and makes it easier to plug in my galaxy light before starting my morning routine. The galaxy light creates a dreamy atmosphere every morning. I keep it on while showering until I’m wide away and ready to turn on the bright overhead lights to put on my makeup.

Eat a Neutrient-Breakfast

Open the blinds to let natural morning sunlight enter the room as you head to the kitchen for breakfast, keeping the mood calm and dreamy. A nutrient-rich breakfast, filled with the goodness of oats, eggs, dairy, and fruit, can be a source of inspiration and motivation for the day. Pinterest has plenty of flavorful recipes that can be prepared overnight or quickly in the morning. Coconut milk smoothies and yogurt parfaits have been a delicious and energizing start to my mornings this year. 

Peaceful Sounds

There is so much noise throughout the day that sometimes it’s nice to wake up and keep everything silent for as long as possible. If you like background noise, try ambient sounds like rain, ocean waves, and forest videos on YouTube. For instance, I often listen to rain sounds or soft instrumental music in the morning to create a calm environment. Take it a step further and begin your day with a simple stretching or pilates video to boost energy in the morning. 

It’s all about what makes you comfortable. Do what keeps you cool, calm, and collected in the morning.
